Acai berries are the berries that are rich in antioxidants and that grow all by themselves in the wild forests of the Amazon as well as the tropical forests of Central America. It is also believed to be the number one when it comes to super foods. Although it is new to the rest of the world, this fruit has been very familiar to the people of Brazil.
The reason many people did not know about this until now is its very short shelf life. Once you pluck it, it stays good for about a day and no more than that. Therefore, if you want to eat it fresh, you might have to visit the Amazon rainforests because otherwise it is not possible.
South America is where it is consumed widely in the form of smoothies, blends, sodas as well as other form of drinks. The pulp of the fruit is dark purple and when you eat it, you get the taste of an amalgamation of blueberries and chocolate.
This fruit is rich in many nutrients and the fact that it is so small and yet manages to contain so many nutrients makes it a super food. Acai berries contain palmitic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, beta-sitosterol, anthocyanins, fiber among other nutrients.
The pulp of the fruit has several anti-bacterial properties and that makes it a great astringent for the natives of the place. The high content of antioxidants bestows the wonderful anti-aging properties to this fruit. The high fiber content makes it great if you are having digestive problems. It also helps to remove the bad cholesterol and give you good fats that is the essential fatty acids.
Now, you can get acai in various forms. Remember, you will never be able to get the fruit in its fresh form because of its short shelf life. Therefore, anyone claiming to bring you the fruit is simply swindling you, so beware. You can get it in the form of pulp, blends of juice, or juice form, capsules and chewable tablets. While you can get the juice form or pulp form in several health food stores, you can get the capsules on the internet.
